28/4/2010

Just got back from Lorton gulley on Grassmoor by Langthwaite Green near Crummock. Today John and me have been out climbing and traversing parts of the gulley, running down scree's but most importantly Practicing Rope work for my forthcoming Mountain Leader assessment (hopefully to be booked for the end of June on the weekend I finish college at Newton Rigg).

I've also recently been up Sca Fell Pike with John and a group (not today!) when the weather was cold wet and windy but everyone in the group had a good time and we kept a good pace throughout the day and made it up and down in a good time of around 5 hours including breaks, then stopped off for a pint at the local pub at Seathwaite before heading back home.

Back to college for me tomorrow for a quick catch up day on my assessment work to finish of my BTEC ND in outdoor education before heading back into the classroom from Tuesday for a few more short weeks before I take my ML assessment enabling me to start full time work for John and Lyanda at TheLakeDistrictWalker!

On the 17th May me and my course at college head up to Loch Eric in Scotland for a weeks expedition and wild camping just before the course ends. We'll walk, kayak, mountain bike and ghyll scramble our way through the week helping me progress even more on my leadership skills before leaving for full time work, more info to come on that next time and i'll let you know how it goes as and when I can!

Thats all from me until my next post

13/4/10

It's been a good this week!
Iv'e had pleanty of new experiences with weather as well as new guides
Ive been out with Paul and Susan, both now employees of "TheLakeDistrictWalker" to Pillar from Wasdale and his dog Bess with Paul and a trip up Helvellyn With Susan from Wyburn in some snow and we saw a man free climbing over a cornice at the top with ice axes and crampons!... videos to be uploaded shortly, as well as meeting new people with the groups that we have taken. As well as this we had a mixed family and friends group of nine up to the summit of Sca Fell Pike (in three peaks challenge time on the way up!!) with John and back down Piers gill climbing down a couple of rockfaces and then strolling along the valley back down so that we could all enjoy a Pint or too at the inn at Wasdale head.
As well as this i've spent another day in the office and we're in the planning stages for a big group activity in July involving a lot of staff, group members and general logistics to make it a great fun experience for all!
Have had the day off doing college assingnments today as John and Lyanda have been out searching for a new company Landrover.
Tomorrow im off up Sca Fell pike again with John and a group from Seathwaite farm up to Sty Head tarn, through the corridor route and up past lingmell to the summit and then back down over both Broad and Ill crag to a final decent through Grains gill back to the track which leads back down to the farm and original starting point to complete the horse shoe walk.
And the rest of the week looks promising for me with more experience with groups and getting fitter as well as gaining even more experience with new guides for the company and making the best of myself from all of this as a guide taking on hints and tips from every trip that i do!!
Later on in the week i'm off to get a new pair of summer walking boots for the year and will let you all know what boots i end up getting and why!
Cheers

HEY!

Ok, so i've had a busy few weeks and the blog's been left to lie, this all changes now though and i'll start afresh and be updating from now on!

So, as the title of this page explains im a trainee mountain guide right now.Im working for thelakedistrictwalker (LDW) at the moment (www.lakedistrictwalker.co.uk) as a trainee mountain guide at weekends and on my days off from college studying a BTEC national diploma in outdoor education.

Apart from these two things, i work in a bar weekend nights in my hometown of Cockermouth, and also play in a punk band called "Allium" and the rest of my time is for my social life and the outdoors.

So thats a really really brief introduction to me, ill be making updates on here as of today on about me and my training and whatevers on my mind at the time, where ive been and what im up to with the lake district walker.
